Hey, look, I know things are a mess. I took a hiatus from blogging and decided to switch up my design before returning. Please be patient, because if you can wait out the mess it means REGULAR POSTING WILL RETURN SOON! :D

Slacking Off, But Not Really

It was recently brought to my attention that I wasn't posting often enough. It's true. It's not that I haven't been interested in, or working on Domestic Dork. It's just that the things I'm working on aren't really ready to be unveiled yet. I've got a list of my top favorite movies I've been trying to complete...but I'm having a really hard time narrowing down my top 10. I've been wanting to do more tutorials but most of the things I know how to do I've gotten from other sources...so it'd be pretty lame to pass them off as my own personal know-how. I'm incubating some ideas for some big, lengthy posts but I'm not ready to write them just yet.

Probably the most exciting thing I'm working on is a total overhaul of my blog design. I had wanted to get a unique, personalized design for quite some time. I figured I'd have to save my pennies for months and hire a designer because I didn't have an understanding of CSS and I wasn't familiar enough with illustrating software to do it myself. Well...that just wouldn't do. I have some basic knowledge of design principles. I'm a talented artist (or so I'm told). And I had some very specific ideas and sketches of what I wanted that I didn't think I could trust another person to pull off. So I decided to teach myself what I needed to know. Armed with my background in art, open source versions of Photoshop and Illustrator, and my trusty sidekick Mr. Google I've been able to put together some pretty sweet stuff. It's not quite finished yet, but soon.

Actually I've had a lot of fun (when I'm not banging my head against a wall because I can't figure out why my code isn't working). So much so that I've been thinking of making a hobby-job of it, digital design that is. I know I could whip up some killer graphics, banners, etc. for people and I could totally do it for less than 99% of digital designers out there. With some more practice and homestudy I could probably even do blog design for people. It's not exactly my number one dream job (which would be getting paid to read books all day), nor is it my number two dream job (which would be making a living wage blogging - so far I've only made $6.49). But it might be in my top 10, maybe even top 5 dream jobs. Once I unveil my new site design I'll give it more thought.

So, be patient with me. I know the blog is slow lately. But it'll pick up again in time. And I think when you see the new look you'll agree it was worth waiting for.

PS: For those of you on Facebook I highly reccomend the pirate version. Scroll to the bottom of any page on Facebook. Click on "English (US)" and switch to "English (Pirate)." It's very amusing.

I am glad to hear you have a new hobby...I might have you make a blog background for me, if you are up to it. I might try the google method as well, we will see.

I took your advice and switched to pirate....it is HILARIOUS!
