Hey, look, I know things are a mess. I took a hiatus from blogging and decided to switch up my design before returning. Please be patient, because if you can wait out the mess it means REGULAR POSTING WILL RETURN SOON! :D

This Is All It Takes To Make Me Giddy

Guess what! Tonight I’m attending my very first cake decorating class!
OMG! Let me say it again!  Tonight I’m attending my very first cake decorating class!  Do you realize how exciting this is?  I mean, yeah, I’ve wanted to take the Wilton classes for years.  And yeah, I think this is going to be all sorts of fun.  But that’s not even the most exciting thing about it.
I’M GOING OUT TO DO SOMETHING FUN ON MY OWN!
I can count on one hand the number of times I’ve been out of the apartment by myself this year.  That’s really sad, people.  Obviously, once you become a mom you have a lot less time to yourself, but I’m talking unhealthy habits here.  Seriously.  That much time with a toddler?  I don’t even remember how to just BE without keeping an eye and ear on Lucy.  I’ve been Mama 24/7 for so long now that I’ve forgotten how to be Holly.
Well, for the next four weeks I’m getting out for two hours, once a week.  And I’m gonna make kick-ass cakes y’all!  Of course, by “kick-ass cakes” I mean “cakes from a box mix with decorations by a beginner.”  But you know what, box mix cakes are delicious!  And I’m not ashamed to admit I use {and love} them.
So there.
And just to give you a comparison point for when I post pictures of my practice cakes here are some cakes/cupcakes I’ve made in the past.
world map cake Ugh. This cake was evil, EVIL I say!

These last three pictures are from Lucy’s first birthday. If you haven’t seen the post about it you should check it out.
Let’s hope we see some improvement, yes?
Have you ever taken the Wilton cake decorating class? Tell me about it in the comments!

Yay for cake decorating!!!!

My new hobby as well, and totally addictive. I started about a year ago, thought I could read a few books and watch YouTube videos but.... I think I really need the classes.

Hope you enjoy!

If Jean is still teaching here in the Hat she is simply amazing! Took her classes 4yrs ago.....don't fall for the 'wilton' crap tho there are so many better tasting products out there. Doctored cake mixes are so much better than some scratch cakes....jmo. (Check out the Cake Mix Doctor Books)

I'm the same way. I never get out by myself. I've made a similar vow lately - to get out and do something alone, for myself!

Enjoy it!

By the looks of your already awesome cakes, you're going to be a star pupil! I'm currently looking for a good excuse to make your lime-coconut one. It sounds delicious!

Domestically Challenged,
IF you can take the class. I can't believe how much I learned in the first night and all we did was watch the teacher!

MLS,
Thanks! I did have fun! I can't wait until the next class!

Diana,
Yup! Jean is our teacher! I couldn't believe how quickly she whipped out a bunch of roses! She's amazing!

Jenn,
Thanks! Maybe you and Skip will have to come over some time and help us eat one of the cakes!

Rita,
I am SO glad I got out. I feel completely renewed. Doing something for me just once a week might just be enough to keep me going all week long.

Kim,
I didn't take pics at class. No time for that, plus I'd have to get permission from everybody there. Too much hassle. But I'll definitely take pictures of my cakes. :)

Brittany,
It WAS delicious! Mother's day is next month. You could make it for your mom if she lives nearby.
