Hey, look, I know things are a mess. I took a hiatus from blogging and decided to switch up my design before returning. Please be patient, because if you can wait out the mess it means REGULAR POSTING WILL RETURN SOON! :D

Like Mother Like Daughter

It's never too early to start a blogging career. So, without further ado, here's Lucy!

Hi! My name is Lucy! This is my very first blog post. Mama is blogging all the time, even while feeding me. Now it's my turn!

On Sunday Daddy and Mama took me to the MS Walk. My Grandma has MS. That's why Mama does the walk. {Hi Grandma!} Mama raised $232 for the MS Society. She wanted to raise a lot more. But I think $232 is a LOT. I won't even be able to count that high for a really, really long time!

I had the map so I got to be the navigator for the walk.

Am I going to be as weird as Daddy when I grow up?

Daddy and Mama thought this was really funny. They said something like "Canada has an awfully small Navy!" I don't get it.

I liked the MS Walk! Walks make great nap times!

Today I got a package in the mail! Mama says she and Daddy picked out this special new friend for me! It's a bright orange bunny! Mama wants to name it Frida. Daddy wants to name it Mr. Bugglesworth. I want to stick it in my mouth. Mama says my bunny is "Fair Trade." But I don't think it's fair to trade my bunny! I really like my new friend. I can grab my bunny easily and the color is pretty! For some reason Mama got really excited about the catalog that came in the box. I guess she really likes the store my bunny came from. Grown ups get excited about weird stuff.

I'm really grateful Mama and Daddy gave me my bunny. But I still wish they'd let me play with that camera!

Well, that does it for my first blog post. I don't get what the fuss is about. I'd rather roll around on the floor.

2010

Well, the California Supreme court has upheld Prop 8. :( But they are also upholding the existing 18,000 marriages as valid. And efforts for change in 2010 are already gearing up.

Please watch this 60 second video. Or you can watch the original 4 minute version below.

Banned Book Challenge - And Tango Makes Three

Remember the Banned Book Challenge? It's not too late to join in! Many of the books are children's books so it's not as reading intensive as it looks!

Today I'm reviewing the first book on the list: And Tango Makes Three, by Justin Richardson/Peter Parnell

This picture book tells the true story of two male chinstrap penguins in the Central Park Zoo. The penguins, Roy and Silo, form a bond and build a nest together. They even sit on an egg shaped rock in an attempt to hatch it. One of their caretakers provides them with a real egg from a male/female pair that has two and has never been able to care for multiple eggs at a time. Roy and Silo hatch the egg and the baby penguin is named Tango. You can learn more about these penguins here.

What an appropriate book to be reviewing on the day the California Supreme Court will be announcing their decision on Prop 8! {Update}

I think it's pretty clear why this book gets people riled up. Personally, I think it's a cute story with sweet illustrations. Lucy wasn't too interested in it (she prefers bolder colors) but I have no qualms about reading it to her when she's older. It seems like an age appropriate way to teach that families come in different shapes and sizes. Some are big, like Adam's family. Some are small, like our family. Some have step parents and siblings, like my family. Some families are built through adoption, like my friends' beautiful family. Some have two mommies or two daddies, like Tango's family. And no matter what religious beliefs one holds I think it's not too much to ask that we acknowledge that families are different and we can all get along. That's a message of love and tolerance that I hope my daughter learns.

Body After Baby

Photobucket

So...seems like Monday is a popular day for memes, eh? Sorry for the overload. I'll keep this one short.

My goals from last Monday included dancing every day and doing crunches every day. I was also challenged to drink 3 liters of water daily and do one extra workout. So, how'd I do?

Well...I started the week strong. But by Friday (or was it Thursday?) I forgot to do my workouts. I got back in the game Sunday with the MS Walk (post to come!) and a session of 30 Day Shred (which kicked my butt)! I did increase my water intake, but never hit 3 liters in one day.

This week I'm aiming to hit the 3 liters of water daily and do 30 Day Shred daily.

Muffin Tin Monday

I love Michelle's (of Her Cup Overfloweth) "Muffin Tin Monday" posts. I think muffin tin meals are adorable and I've been wanting to do one...except that a muffin tin meal for Lucy would just be a muffin tin filled with breast milk. And I think it'd be easier for her to get her meal on tap. But nowhere does it say that a grown adult can't act like a kid and enjoy a muffin tin meal of her own. And that's exactly what I did.

water (in Ikea cup), red bell peppers, no-sugar added "Country Berry" applesauce, a banana, a veggie sandwich (lettuce, cucmber, tomato, cheese, mustard, and miracle whip on whole wheat), an apple, honey nuts (and a multivitamin), and dark chocolate covered espresso beans

It ended up being a lot more food than I realized. It was the biggest lunch I've had in a long time. And it was awesome! I ended up eating on the couch because Lucy wanted lunch too. I often end up trying to balance a plate over her in those situations. This worked much better because the muffin tin was spill resistent and I felt safe just sitting it next to us on the couch. I may have to make a habit of muffin tin meals for that very reason. I look forward to doing my first themed meal (upcoming themes can be found on Michelle's blog). If you have kids, or just are a big kid, I reccomend giving muffin tin meals a try!
